YMW Partner Barry Cobb Named 2012 Leader In Law
RALEIGH, N.C. (September 19, 2012)─Yates, McLamb & Weyher, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based litigation firm, announces today that firm partner Barry Cobb has been named a 2012 Leader In Law by NC Lawyers Weekly. The award recognizes those individuals whose leadership, both in the legal profession and in the community, has made a positive impact on our state. Recipients of this award demonstrate outstanding achievement in these key areas: achievement in law; involvement in the profession; support of the community; and mentoring. This year, only 27 attorneys were selected for recognition out of the more than 20,000 active members of the North Carolina State Bar.
Cobb has been practicing law for 20 years, becoming a certified mediator in 2004. With a practice focused on litigation, he represents medical practitioners, their practices, and medical institutions in liability, malpractice and licensing issues. He has tried cases in state and federal courts and has argued appeals before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeal for the Fourth Circuit. Cobb has conducted seminars for attorneys and clients on nursing home issues, medical malpractice issues, risk management, effective legal writing, advocacy in mediation, and professionalism.
He is the immediate past chair of the Litigation Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. He is also a past member of the Local Rules Committee for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, and has served twice on the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Committees for the Eastern District,including once as chair. Cobb has also been involved in volunteer activities with Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Sanderson High School Band Boosters, and the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic.
