Triangle Residents Recycle Nearly 30,000 Pounds of Materials
Hundreds of Triangle residents participated in the document shredding and electronics recycling event on October 17 held at Coastal Federal Credit Union. More than 20,000 pounds of documents and nearly 9,000 pounds of electronics were collected, securely destroyed and recycled. The free event was put on by the Better Business Bureau of Eastern North Carolina.
“Identity theft remains a pertinent problem today. Events like this one go a long way in keeping an individual’s sensitive information out of the wrong hands,” said Steve Fromme, president and CEO of Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina. “BBB is proud to be able to provide consumers the opportunity to shred personal documents and destroy retired electronic devices in a safe and environmentally friendly way.”
Coastal Federal Credit Union served as location sponsors, promoting the importance of identity protection and security in the community. Free document shredding services were provided by PROSHRED® Security and A Shred Ahead®. Local recycler, GEEP, collected all electronics for secure and eco-friendly destruction.
To date, the “Secure Your ID” Day events have safely destroyed more than 390,000 pounds of sensitive documents and nearly 100,000 pounds of electronics. The event is held in the spring and fall each year. For more information, visit bbbshred.org.
The next BBB Secure Your ID Day shredding and electronics recycling event is planned for April 2016. Bookmark bbbshred.org to stay informed of future events.
