RALEIGH, N.C. (January 6, 2011) ― Brand communication and public relations firm Articulon, (www.articulon.com) has retained its position as agency of record for the 2011 Krispy Kreme Challenge. For the second consecutive year, Articulon will support the Raleigh race benefiting the North Carolina Children’s Hospital.

Articulon is managing the advertising and public relations campaign for the seventh annual event taking place February 5, 2011. In 2010, 6,000 participants took part in the event; helping raise $55,000 for charity. Participation is expected to increase to 7,500 for this year’s event.

“It’s amazing that this event has grown from a small group of N.C. State students into an extreme experience with thousands of participants,” says Cindy Stranad, Articulon principal. “We are proud to work with event organizers to raise much needed funds for the NC Children’s Hospital.”

Beginning as a dare between 10 N.C. State students in 2004, the competition has grown exponentially over the past 7 years. The event attracts a wide range of runners and enthusiasts from beginners to seasoned competitors hailing from all corners of the country. Sports Illustrated listed the Krispy Kreme Challenge #85 on the “102 More Things you Gotta Do Before You Graduate” list.

To complete the Krispy Kreme Challenge, competitors begin at the N.C. State Bell Tower, run two miles to the Krispy Kreme store on Peace Street, eat a dozen glazed doughnuts, and then run two miles back to the Bell Tower—all in under one hour.
