FMI Announces Training Schedule

FMI, the largest provider of management consulting, investment banking and research to the engineering and construction industry, announces today its fall training schedule. To view a complete list of 2012 – 2013 seminars, visit http://www.fminet.com/media/pdf/sco/2012-13_Catalog.pdf.

October brings the Construction Executive Institute, October 8-11 and the Mergers and Acquisitions Forum: Formulating an Exit Strategy October 29-31. The Construction Executive Institute is asenior-level, immersion experience built around four core themes:

  1. Developing and maintaining profitable, long-term business success
  2. Evaluating and mitigating enterprise risks
  3. Understanding and mastering financial control of your business
  4. Bidding and managing projects to maximize profits

The Mergers and Acquisitions Forum: Formulating an Exit Strategy workshop brings together top professionals from FMI’s Investment Banking, Center for Strategic Leadership and Management Consulting divisions putting an arsenal of more than 90 years of industry-specific experience at the disposal of participants for two and a half days. Limited to just 50 attendees, participants have the undivided attention and focus of FMI’s expert team. At the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the strategies necessary to improve, position and transition your business, as well as know what steps are needed to execute a successful transaction.

In November, FMI will offer the Leadership Institute, November 5-8 and Emerging Managers Institute, November 13-15. The Leadership Institute is a four-day experience that provides personal insight into an individual’s unique leadership style and how it impacts others and their organization. It focuses on five main areas:

  1. Personal assessment and individual development
  2. Experiential leadership opportunities
  3. A small-group construction company simulation
  4. Giving and receiving effective feedback
  5. Essentials of leadership for the future of the construction/design industry

Just being a technically-skilled builder is not good enough in today’s competitive construction market. Industry research shows that the construction industry has done a good job of developing the knowledge base and technical skills of employees, but a poor job of developing management skills. Although people need to have a solid foundation of technical knowledge, the most successful leaders of the future will have also developed strong management, leadership and business skills in order to grow their company’s profitability. Project executives, project managers, project engineers, estimators, departmental managers, superintendents and anyone in a supervisory position or those who will be assuming supervisory responsibilities are encouraged to attend.

December offers a second Emerging Managers Institute, December 4-6, as well as Construction Selling Skills, December 5-7 and the Project Managers Academy, December 10-13. Construction Selling Skills participantswill receive training in how to find, target and win the right customers and project opportunities. They will learn a consultative approach to selling that puts them in a position of helping customers buy versus having to sell to them including how to sell value and build loyalty, as well as lasting relationships.

The Project Manager academy is a high-level, immersion experience where project delivery professionals examine themselves, their organizations and their processes. It will transform them from talented builders into true construction entrepreneurs. This is recommended for anyone interested in developing exceptional project delivery capabilities.
