Triangle Residents Recycle Nearly 30,000 Pounds of Materials

Hundreds of Triangle residents participated in the document shredding and electronics recycling event on October 17 held at Coastal Federal Credit Union. More than 20,000 pounds of documents and nearly 9,000 pounds of electronics were collected, securely destroyed and recycled. The free event was put on by the Better Business Bureau of Eastern North Carolina.

“Identity theft remains a pertinent problem today. Events like this one go a long way in keeping an individual’s sensitive information out of the wrong hands,” said Steve Fromme, president and CEO of Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina. “BBB is proud to be able to provide consumers the opportunity to shred personal documents and destroy retired electronic devices in a safe and environmentally friendly way.”

Coastal Federal Credit Union served as location sponsors, promoting the importance of identity protection and security in the community. Free document shredding services were provided by PROSHRED® Security and A Shred Ahead®. Local recycler, GEEP, collected all electronics for secure and eco-friendly destruction.

To date, the “Secure Your ID” Day events have safely destroyed more than 390,000 pounds of sensitive documents and nearly 100,000 pounds of electronics. The event is held in the spring and fall each year. For more information, visit bbbshred.org.

CorePower Yoga Enters NC Market

CorePower Yoga is entering the North Carolina market in November 2015 with their inaugural location in Raleigh’s Cameron Village shopping center on the corner of Woodburn Road and Cameron Street. This will be the first of five locations to be opened within the next few years, according to the franchisee.

“With the recent and continued growth of the Triangle area, health-centric culture, and friendly business community, entering the North Carolina market was a natural next step in our brand’s expansion,” said New Market Opening Manager Jessica Sharpe. “We’re excited to join the Raleigh community as well as become a part of our future students’ healthy lifestyles.”

The Raleigh location will be open seven days a week with classes offered throughout the day, beginning at 6 a.m. and ending at 10 p.m. The studio space is approximately 5,500 square feet will be equipped with two large studios and a men and women’s locker room. It will offer four varieties of classes, including CorePower 1, CorePower 2, Hot Power Fusion, and Yoga Sculpt.

CorePower classes are a formatted style of yoga, offering consistency and a great workout with every teacher and every studio. Free Shredding and Electronic Recycling Event by BBB Serving Eastern North Carolina

Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina announces today its fall “Secure Your ID” Day event will take place in Raleigh on Saturday, October 17, 2015. It will include document shredding, collection of computers and hard-drives for secure destruction, electric/electronics recycling and identity protection tips. The shred and recycling event will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the parking lot of Coastal Federal Credit Union located at 1000 St. Albans Drive.

The 2015 Identity Fraud Report by Javelin Strategy & Research, states that in 2014, 12.7 million consumers experienced identity fraud, with one incident of identity theft occurring every two seconds.

“Shredding paper documents and safely disposing of used computers and mobile devices are key ways to protect an individual’s identity,” says Steve Fromme, president and CEO of BBB serving Eastern North Carolina. “Our free shred event is the perfect opportunity to safely dispose of both paper documents and electronics.”

During the event, local partners ProShred, A Shred Ahead and GEEP will be on site. Individuals are encouraged to bring up to three boxes/bags of documents that have been removed from binders, and up to five electric/electronic devices. Accepted items are computers, cell phones, tablets, TVs, printers, fax machines, vacuums, DVD/CD players, microwaves and toasters.

To date, the semi-annual “Secure Your ID” Day events have safely destroyed more than 370,000 lbs. of sensitive documents and more than 89,000 lbs. of electronics. Additional event information is available at www.bbbshred.org.

30,000 Plus Expected at 30th Annual International Festival

The 30th annual International Festival of Raleigh will take place October 9 through October 11 at the Raleigh Convention center. Fun for the whole family, tickets are available online at www.internationalfestival.org, with discounts for military, seniors, students and children.

The weekend of festivities starts with a naturalization ceremony that will swear in more than 200 foreign-born individuals as citizens of the United States. This is the only ceremony in North Carolina that is held outside of a courthouse. It is open to the public and allows family and friends to observe this momentous occasion. The ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. on the main stage in the Raleigh Convention Center.
