Commercial Real Estate Fundraiser Nets $14,000 for Charity

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 19, 2012) ─ The 7th Annual Joint Commercial Real Estate Networking Event was held on September 12, 2012 with more than 375 guests in attendance. The fundraising event raised $14,000 to benefit Haven House and Urban Ministries. The money was split evenly, gifting each cause with a check for $7,000.

“The commercial real estate community in our area is deeply committed to supporting Triangle charities,” says Kerry Saunders, Triangle Commercial Association of REALTORS® president and networking committee chair. “We are so thankful to the sponsors, hosts and attendees who made this year’s event so successful.”

The annual event has grown from the desire of commercial real estate organizations to join together to host a networking fundraiser to support the programs and services of area nonprofits. To date, $74,000 has been donated to local charities, including The Boys and Girls Club of Wake County, Hilltop Homes, Wake County Women’s Shelter, Pretty in Pink, Interact and the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.

YMW Partner Barry Cobb Named 2012 Leader In Law

(September 19, 2012)Yates, McLamb & Weyher, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based litigation firm, announces today that firm partner Barry Cobb has been named a 2012 Leader In Law by NC Lawyers Weekly. The award recognizes those individuals whose leadership, both in the legal profession and in the community, has made a positive impact on our state. Recipients of this award demonstrate outstanding achievement in these key areas: achievement in law; involvement in the profession; support of the community; and mentoring. This year, only 27 attorneys were selected for recognition out of the more than 20,000 active members of the North Carolina State Bar.

Cobb has been practicing law for 20 years, becoming a certified mediator in 2004. With a practice focused on litigation, he represents medical practitioners, their practices, and medical institutions in liability, malpractice and licensing issues. He has tried cases in state and federal courts and has argued appeals before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeal for the Fourth Circuit. Cobb has conducted seminars for attorneys and clients on nursing home issues, medical malpractice issues, risk management, effective legal writing, advocacy in mediation, and professionalism.

He is the immediate past chair of the Litigation Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. He is also a past member of the Local Rules Committee for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, and has served twice on the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Committees for the Eastern District,including once as chair. Cobb has also been involved in volunteer activities with Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Sanderson High School Band Boosters, and the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic.

Thompson will serve on a four-member panel as part of the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism. He will offer insight into the impact of social networking and technology on the areas of attorney marketing and professional ethics.

Williams will lead a session on contractual shifting of risks and additional insured insurance provisions. He will focus on indemnity and limitation of liability clauses, as well as additional insured issues within construction cases.

Thompson and Williams are both graduates of the Campbell University School of Law. Thompson is a litigator who has dedicated his practice to defending professionals in claims of professional negligence. He has also been called upon to work with clients involving claims of municipality embezzlement, arson, fraud and unfair/deceptive trade practices. Thompson also represents professionals at administrative board hearings.

Williams focuses his practice on construction litigation, products liability, general personal injury defense, subrogation, and business litigation. He has extensive experience defending claims involving alleged catastrophic injury, death, or substantial property damage.

Molecular Therapeutics Roundtable October 4

Nagoya University and its technology transfer office in North Carolina, Technology Partnership of Nagoya University, will be hosting the third annual NU Tech technology roundtable in cooperation with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University and Wake Forest University. This year’s event will take place at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in Research Triangle Park on October 4. It will feature presentations of cutting-edge research innovations in the fields of diagnostics and molecular therapeutics.

  • Atsushi Enomoto, Ph.D. discussing a potential new drug and diagnostic tool for cancer
